15 Tips for Blog Block
15 tips for those days when you need a break from blogging and get some fresh inspirationPeople
1) People who don't know.
One place I love to get inspiration from is my parents. Their complete lack of grasp of the Internet world gives me loads of inspiration for blogging. It's easy to assume everyone knows as much as you do about your chosen topic so talking to someone who doesn't know can give you a whole new, refreshing slant.
2) Strangers
If you speak to the same people day in and day out then eventually you'll not have a whole lot to say to each other. Get out there and talk to people who are new to you, hear their experiences and ask loads of questions - you may be amazed at what you could dig up.
3) Charity
We all do it...when we see a charity worker outside our heads go down and we stride on past. What about stopping and talking the next time? Who knows what they have to say and what their experiences are - it's all about just getting a fresh perspective.
4) Children
Ask a child about what they think you do and wait for the fantastic responses. Because of the name of our company, one of the kids we know believes we have a polar bear in the office. No adult is going to come out with gems like that!
5) Workers
There are loads of people you will pass on a daily basis that you may not su much as glance at so how about this - next time you are in a museum talk to the curator. They will likely have loads of stories and gems of information that you may miss out on if you just read the standard literature.
Places
6) Fresh air
Go up a hill, walk through a forest, lie in a meadow...anything but just get out of your office, away from your computer and get so 'you' time to free the block.
7) Bathroom
Ok, so who hasn't utilized time in the bathroom to study as teenagers? Thought so. It is a great place to get some uninterrupted thinking time!
8) Circus
Take a trip somewhere different and see what comparisons you can draw. Could the clowns be your competition for example?
9) Cinema
I've had a few posts inspired by the cinema and cinema adverts - they are usually different adverts to what you would see on the TV so again, they can give afresh perspective.
10) Restaurant
Look at the design of the menu, the business cards, even the decor. Is there anything you can take from that? What about the ambiance or maybe even the food - it's all inspirations and a well deserved break.
Actions
11) Volunteer
Volunteer for a day. It'll give you new ideas, new experiences and maybe even a new perspective on things
12) Comedian
A good laugh will free up any blocks and stop you thinking about the task at hand for an hour or so.
13) Argue
Go on a forum and be alittle controversial - it's good to show opinions and it's pretty much guaranteed to get people communicating.
14) Visit
Go somewhere new - if you're in Dublin then the Guiness Factory for example. You never know the ideas and designs you will be exposed to unless you get out there and look.
15) Observe
Many cities in the UK are great for people watching. Edinburgh during the festival is fantastic to sit and while away a few hours watching street performers - watch how they interact with the crowds. It can be both a good and bad way to give you tips on selling!
