Tips to Extend iPhone Battery Life

Tips to Extend iPhone Battery Life
The Apple iPhone is the king of smartphones, but like all other models, battery life is a major concern for this device. Here are some tips that will ensure that your battery life is as long as possible.
One of the major complaints against high-end smartphones like the Apple iPhone is their ridiculous battery life. These phones need to be charged at least once a day, and in cases where people use them extensively, charging them twice or thrice a day is not uncommon. Manufacturers of smartphones have started making these devices slimmer and slimmer and this is all well and good, but this inadvertently leads to a smaller size battery being placed in the device, and this is certainly an area that needs an improvement.

An old basic Nokia handset can still run for 4-5 days on a single charge, and when you compare this with the results of the modern smartphone, the results are truly atrocious. The iPhone is a device that still performs better than most Android smartphones (which are notorious for a very short battery life), but with certain tweaks, one can derive more life from the battery on a single charge.

One major disadvantage of the iPhone is that the battery cannot be replaced by you, since you cannot open the device. Android phones on the other hand have replaceable batteries, so you can buy a spare one from the market and insert it into the device when the inserted battery runs out. Moreover, you will not find an extra iPhone battery selling in the market, because they do not exist. You must also remember to not fall for battery life claims that manufacturers make, these are always exaggerated since they are calculated under ideal conditions.

iPhone Battery Life Tips

These tips to extend iPhone battery life can be made use of by anyone, and the results will be visibly obvious. Getting a few more hours out of your iPhone battery is something that could prove very useful to you, so you should act wisely and follow these tips as and when the time arises. We hope that in future the battery life of the iPhone and other smartphones improves, but for now, these tips and pointers should see us through.
  1. Every iPhone has an ambient light sensor, and when you tweak the settings to automatic mode, the screen will adjust its brightness according to the amount of light outside. The screen of the device is one of the factors that leads to maximum battery drainage, and the brighter it is the faster your battery will drain.
  2. You should turn off settings like GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if you are not using them. These functions eat into battery life at a very quick rate, and you must switch them on only when you truly need to use them. In order to maximize iPhone battery lifespan you should install an app that lets you toggle these features on and off as quickly and easily as possible.
  3. Just like the aforementioned features, even 3G connectivity results in iPhone battery draining fast, so it should be switched off whenever possible. Not every geographical area is 3G enabled so you must turn it off when you enter such areas in order to improve the battery life of your iPhone.
  4. One of the tips to extend iPhone battery life is to carry the charger with you wherever you go. Charge the phone as often as possible so that you never have to face a situation where the battery is too low to perform necessary functions. One thing you should know is that on an average a battery lasts for a cycle of about 1000 full charges in its lifetime. A full charge is when the battery reaches 100% charge level. If you charge the battery till 99% charge level, it will not wear out no matter how many times you charge the battery, so it is perfectly safe to charge the iPhone as often as possible during the day. Keep multiple chargers at home, at work and even in your car.
  5. The iPhone is a magnificent device to look at and play with in idle hours, but refraining from locking and unlocking the screen unnecessarily will also improve battery life. Do not switch it on and off just so that you can look at the screen and play with it a bit. Trust me, there are many people who do that on a regular basis.
  6. If you desperately need to improve iPhone battery life hours on a particular day, do not watch movies, play games and surf the web on it. These functions drain the battery very fast, so do not use them unless you really need to.
  7. If you find your iPhone battery draining fast, you can set the autolock feature to a smaller amount of time. This means that the screen will lock faster when the phone is idle, thus saving some of the juice that goes into running that bright screen.
  8. Other features like fetching data, pushing email and location services can also be turned off. There is no harm in going to your inbox and pressing the refresh button and waiting for a few seconds to see your mail. When these features are activated in the background, they eat into the battery at a massive pace.
There are tons of things that you can do with an iPhone, and it is not possible to stop yourself from performing these functions. Many activities will drain the battery and this is the way it is, so be prepared for this. Carry chargers with you and charge the iPhone as often as possible for best results, and hope that the technology for improving battery life of smartphones is implemented soon.
